Live Comedy in the month of September will be presented by Cutler Brothers Productions in Deer Lodge every Friday evening beginning at 8:00 pm. The Cutler Brother’s improv team “Das Froot” will kick the comedy month off this Friday, September 16th followed by the roast of Deer Lodge native and CPA Michael Blakeley next Friday, September 23rd. The September comedy month will end on the 30th with another round of “Das Froot” improvisation.
“Das Froot” is the brainchild of Cutler Brothers Productions and has been performing together for over eight years. The team consists of anywhere between four and twelve members and they have performed for numerous events across Montana including Chamber of Commerce banquets, the PO National Convention, the Museum and Arts Foundation dinner, and countless comedy festivals. The “Das Froot” resume spans from church functions to late night bar comedy.
Two members of the “Das Froot” improv team have studied improvisational comedy in the subject’s capital of Chicago. Kelly Cutler attended the 2nd City Training Center and was accepted into notorious school’s Conservatory. The 2nd City Conservatory has seen the likes of Steve Carrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poeler, Chris Farley, Tim Meadows, and countless others who have also played on Saturday Night Live. The other “Das Froot” member with Chicago credits is Kyle Gillette. Gillette attended Chicago’s other notorious comedy school Improv Olympic in the 90’s.
“Das Froot” improv takes on the Chicago-styled long form of improv but also mixes in the gamey “Whose Line is it Anyway” short form. The troupe performs games and scenes that are one hundred percent made-up on the spot in front of their audiences based off the audience suggestions. This style of improv is ubiquitous to the Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles comedy scenes.
The comedy tour’s 2nd Friday in Deer Lodge will place local CPA Michael Blakeley on the hot seat. The “Das Froot” improv team and friends of Blakeley will roast the tax man as well as each other. Members of the roast panel include mayor Zane Cozby, journalist Rex Kendall, Matt and Kelly Cutler, Jim Cameron, Tina Saville, and city councilmen Terry Jennings and Kyler Noel. Roasts are a Comedy Central staple and Blakeley’s roast will be the Cutler Brother’s 8th of all time.
Tickets to the September comedy nights are $7 for the improv shows on the 16th and 30th and $10 for the Roast of Michael Blakeley on the 23rd. All shows begin at 8:00 pm and tickets will be available for purchase at the door at Cutler Bros. Theatre in Deer Lodge.
