This will be the Cutler Brother’s 35th Comedy Night of this style since 2003 and the show will take place at their theatre in Deer Lodge.
Valentine’s Day Comedy Night began in 2012 when the Deer Lodge-based entertainment troupe first purchased their theatre and has become an audience favorite over the years. 34th Annual Comedy Night Coming this Christmas!
The Cutler Brother’s 34th Comedy Night will take place Friday, December 23rd on the brother’s main stage in Deer Lodge. The Comedy Night will have holiday themes and is fully written by Matthew and Kelly Cutler. This marks the 14th straight year the small-town entertainment company has produced a Christmas Comedy Night.
The Cutler Brother’s Comedy Night takes on the SNL-style with funny sketches as well as a guest host from the community and a musical guest. The 2016 Christmas host will be Abby Kellicut, who previously owned Cattail Floral in town, and the directors are still working on a musical guest for the event. Comedy Night is given a PG-13 rating by the brothers in terms of language and content.
Other cast members for the 2016 comedy show include valley favorites Matthew and Kelly Cutler, Jim and Theresa Cameron, Zane Cozby, Stuart Jewell, Kyle Gillette, Jenn Logan, Rex Kendall, Jim Tilley, and Dane Thompson. Brandon Forson, who joined the Cutler Brother’s Creepshow this year and was last seen as Buddy the Elf in “Miracle on 34th Street,” will make his comedy night debut. Butte’s radio personality Carin Sullivan will also show her comedy chops along with Jenna Singleton making her first comedy night appearance since 2009.
Sketches for Comedy Night 34 include a sequel to the gothic Christmas Band, a spoof on Judge Judy, a new rendition of “Miracle on 34th Street,” a group meeting called “Overly Sensitive Anonymous,” and much more. Kelly Cutler and Jenn Logan will inform audience members during their Comedy Night News segment and host Kellicut will deliver an intro monologue as seen in all Cutler Bros. Comedy Nights.
The 34th Comedy Night, ironically falling in the same month the company produced “Miracle on 34th Street,” will begin at 7:30 pm and reservations are highly recommended as Comedy Nights generally sell out. Tickets are $10 – $15 and may be reserved by calling the Cutler Bros. box office at (406) 846-4096. Visit cutlerbros.com for more information.
“Miracle on 34th Street” Opens Next Week!
“Miracle on 34th Street” will play on the Cutler Brother’s stage in Deer Lodge from December 2nd to the 11th constituting the brothers first ever “holiday performance.” The play is a Christmas comedy-drama based off the 1947 film written and directed by George Seaton and based on a story by Valentine Davies. The young Natalie Wood stole audience hearts as the role of candid “Susan Walker.”
The beloved holiday classic follows the story of the real Kris Kringle (Kyle Gillette) as he is bequeathed the job of Santa Claus at Macy’s Department Store after the original Santa Claus (Wolf Winters) shows up intoxicated. Kringle promises many children the gifts they wish for and tells their parents they can get better deals at other stores. Mr. Shellhammer (Josh Pentland) and Mrs. Walker (Erin Franzen) are befuddled at Kringle’s antics and take the matter straight to Mr. Macy (Zane Cozby). In the meantime Mrs. Walker continues to explain to her daughter Susan (Izzy Savalla) that Santa Claus simply “does not exist.”
After “letting Mr. Kringle go,” Mrs. Walker discovers that business is popping at Macy’s due to the “fair and honest” Santa Claus directing customers to the best deals. Mr. Macy is ecstatic and management scrambles to rehire Mr. Kringle at once with the stipulation he is put under a psychiatric evaluation by the store’s vocational guidance counselor Mr. Sawyer (Kelly Cutler). A sub-story begins to erupt as Mrs. Walker finds herself falling for a New York defense attorney named Fred Gayley (Stuart Jewell).
Mr. Sawyer orders Mr. Kringle to be confined after which the elves and store customers explode with annoyance. The whole ordeal winds up before the New York state court to discover if Mr. Kringle “truly is the real Santa Claus.” Mr. Gayley finds himself pinned against a tough prosecuting attorney in Mr. Mara (Darryl Barton) and a judge (Scott Grazier) only interested in reelection. Many show up for the case and the outcome is vital to the Christmas spirit.
The Deer Lodge cast for “Miracle on 34th Street” is the largest the local entertainment company has ever seen with nearly 50 people taking the stage. Director Kelly Cutler said, “This is the first major holiday show we’ve ever done. I cannot believe the number of people that came out to participate.” Technical director Matthew Cutler mirrored this sentiment, “During rehearsals, the theatre looks like a sold out crowd there are so many people and parents. It’s really going to be an amazing thing.”
“Miracle on 34th Street” will play Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm from December 2nd – 11th in Deer Lodge. Tickets are $15 and reservations are highly recommended for every show. Reservations are available at the Cutler Bros. box office at (406) 846-4096. For more information, directions, or general questions call the box office or visit cutlerbros.com.

Creepshow Returns…and Promises to Be the Scariest in Montana!
The Cutler Brother’s Creepshow is back for its 5th year and it promises to be the scariest yet! This year’s Creepshow is themed around the idea of “The Purge.” All crime is legal for one day a year and the audience will find themselves stuck in that day. The show will be formatted as a stage show as well as a haunted house with an interactive feel.
Audience members will be introduced to the story of “The Purge” and hurled into the chaos as they are stalked and chased by murderers, drug addicts, and far worse criminals. All shows will take place at the Cutler Brother’s Theatre in Deer Lodge from October 27th – Halloween night. Three shows will take place each evening at 7:00 pm, 8:30 pm, and 10:00 pm. Reservations will only be taken at the door the night of each Purge and plenty of space is available as the Creepshow can “purge” up to 125 individuals at a time. The show lasts approximately 40 minutes.
Creepshow began in 2012 when the Cutler brothers decided to put on an October-scare fest. The first two years took place at the brother’s theatre with the themes of an insane asylum and then a nuclear waste spill. In 2014 the production company moved their annual Creepshow to the Old Montana Prison. The Creepshow employed the scare-tactics of nearly 40 individuals and while at the Old Prison the themes consisted of Killer Clowns and last year’s infamous cannibalistic tribe with hints of “The Green Inferno.”
“Moving back to the theatre has its perks and its upside,” said the show’s director Kelly Cutler. He added, “It’s a smaller space which allows us to have more control and a lot of people don’t know about some of our nooks and crannies like the theatre’s basement. Plus we can heat the whole facility.”
Matthew Cutler, this year’s author of the Creepshow, stated, “It’s going to be a lot different from year’s past. It’s half a stage show and half a haunted house.” Jim K. Tilley, long time Cutler brother actor, added, “After the initial meetings for this year’s show I left with chills. They have some really amazing ideas to entertain people this October.” Matthew Cutler concluded, “We thought “The Purge” would be a good theme since this is an actual election year and everybody can relate.”
Creepshow tickets are $10 for general admission and $15 for front row seats which comes with a free Cutler Brother’s Creepshow T-shirt. Tickets will be sold out of the brother’s theatre up to ½ hour prior to show time on the nights of the show. Audience members are asked to leave cell phones and electronic devices outside the theatre and to come with an open mind ready to be chilled.
Live Comedy at Cutler Bros. in September
Live Comedy in the month of September will be presented by Cutler Brothers Productions in Deer Lodge every Friday evening beginning at 8:00 pm. The Cutler Brother’s improv team “Das Froot” will kick the comedy month off this Friday, September 16th followed by the roast of Deer Lodge native and CPA Michael Blakeley next Friday, September 23rd. The September comedy month will end on the 30th with another round of “Das Froot” improvisation.
“Das Froot” is the brainchild of Cutler Brothers Productions and has been performing together for over eight years. The team consists of anywhere between four and twelve members and they have performed for numerous events across Montana including Chamber of Commerce banquets, the PO National Convention, the Museum and Arts Foundation dinner, and countless comedy festivals. The “Das Froot” resume spans from church functions to late night bar comedy.
Two members of the “Das Froot” improv team have studied improvisational comedy in the subject’s capital of Chicago. Kelly Cutler attended the 2nd City Training Center and was accepted into notorious school’s Conservatory. The 2nd City Conservatory has seen the likes of Steve Carrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poeler, Chris Farley, Tim Meadows, and countless others who have also played on Saturday Night Live. The other “Das Froot” member with Chicago credits is Kyle Gillette. Gillette attended Chicago’s other notorious comedy school Improv Olympic in the 90’s.
“Das Froot” improv takes on the Chicago-styled long form of improv but also mixes in the gamey “Whose Line is it Anyway” short form. The troupe performs games and scenes that are one hundred percent made-up on the spot in front of their audiences based off the audience suggestions. This style of improv is ubiquitous to the Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles comedy scenes.
The comedy tour’s 2nd Friday in Deer Lodge will place local CPA Michael Blakeley on the hot seat. The “Das Froot” improv team and friends of Blakeley will roast the tax man as well as each other. Members of the roast panel include mayor Zane Cozby, journalist Rex Kendall, Matt and Kelly Cutler, Jim Cameron, Tina Saville, and city councilmen Terry Jennings and Kyler Noel. Roasts are a Comedy Central staple and Blakeley’s roast will be the Cutler Brother’s 8th of all time.
Tickets to the September comedy nights are $7 for the improv shows on the 16th and 30th and $10 for the Roast of Michael Blakeley on the 23rd. All shows begin at 8:00 pm and tickets will be available for purchase at the door at Cutler Bros. Theatre in Deer Lodge. For further questions, info, or directions visit cutlerbros.com or call the box office at (406) 846-4096. A no-host bar and concessions will be available for all performances.

The 33rd Comedy Night’s guest host will be Deer Lodge native and past city figurehead Daryle Barton. “I’ve seen multiple Comedy Nights and I love them,” stated Barton. Sketches for this comedy night will poke fun at several current events and themes. Skits include spoofs on the summer Olympics and “Gladiator,” a sketch about “What Men Actually Think,” a basketball coach that only gives pep talks stolen from famous movies, and much more including the beloved Comedy Night News. The musical guest will be 7th Passing who are currently concluding their work on “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
